One of the great things about Omaha is how easy it is to get from here to there. Within minutes from downtown, there are cool, little places around the city that offer historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities for both tourists and locals alike. Midtown is no different. Close to the Missouri River, near to all kinds of shopping, dining, and nightlife, it has some of the best kinds of activities for all the family to enjoy within a few minutes from the epicenter of Omaha.
Home to Bemis, Turner, Gifford, and Walnut Hill Parks, there is something for everyone when you need some greenery in the middle of the city. From strolls in the park with your pet to music concerts in the park with Jazz on the Green, Midtown has a great showing of things to do on any given day of the week during peak season. With many grammar and high schools in the area, the University of Nebraska medical center, and lots of local housing, Midtown is a wonderful place to raise a family and commute into the city center for work. It is no wonder that it is a popular bedroom community for Omaha.
One of the more interesting features in Midtown is Joslyn Castle, a Scottish-inspired castle and garden that dates back to the early 20th century. Being the previous home of George and Sarah Joslyn, it is now open to the public for tours as well as a place for events such as literary and arts festivals. As a place for a lovely stroll or a historic museum for all ages to enjoy, the castle a wonderful addition to any tour of Omaha.
